A quick and fuss-free recipe for perfectly grilled hot dogs wrapped in crispy bacon, delivering a smoky, savory treat that’s perfect for casual gatherings and backyard barbecues.

Ingredients

  • Hot dogs (beef or pork, recommended Nathan’s Famous)
  • Thin-sliced bacon (or thick-cut, adjust cooking time accordingly)
  • Cooking oil or spray (to prevent sticking)
  • Optional: black pepper or smoked paprika
  • Optional: hot dog buns (soft, fresh)
  • Optional condiments: mustard, ketchup, relish, or favorite toppings

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (around 375°F/190°C). If using charcoal, let coals ash over for about 10 minutes.
  2. Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel to help bacon stick better.
  3. Wrap one slice of bacon tightly around each hot dog, spiraling from one end to the other. Trim bacon if too long. Secure with toothpicks if needed.
  4. Lightly oil the grill grates using a paper towel dipped in cooking oil and tongs to prevent sticking.
  5. Place bacon-wrapped hot dogs on the grill perpendicular to the grates. Grill for 10-12 minutes, turning every 2-3 minutes for even cooking until bacon is crispy and browned and hot dogs are heated through.
  6. If bacon crisps too fast but hot dog is not heated, move hot dogs to indirect heat to finish cooking without burning.
  7. Remove hot dogs and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease. Let rest for 2 minutes.
  8. Serve immediately in warm buns with favorite toppings.

Notes

Use thin-sliced bacon for best crispiness. Secure bacon with toothpicks if it unravels. Rotate hot dogs frequently to avoid uneven cooking and flare-ups. Let rest briefly after grilling to maintain crispiness. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free hot dogs and buns. Turkey bacon and turkey dogs can be substituted for a lighter version but watch cooking times closely.
