Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
  • 1 ripe avocado, diced
  • ½ small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas, warmed
  • Optional: sour cream or crema for drizzling
  • Optional: extra lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Toss shrimp with smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside for 5 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine diced mango, avocado, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime juice. Add salt to taste and gently mix. Set aside.
  3. Heat skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter. Once melted and foaming, add minced garlic and stir quickly for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Add seasoned shrimp in a single layer. Cook undisturbed for about 2 minutes until pink and golden crust forms. Flip and cook another 1-2 minutes.
  5. Toss shrimp briefly in remaining 2 tablespoons butter to coat. Remove from heat immediately.
  6. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave wrapped in a damp towel.
  7. Assemble tacos by spooning shrimp onto tortillas and topping with mango avocado salsa. Optionally drizzle with sour cream or crema and squeeze extra lime juice.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry thoroughly to ensure crispiness. Use a butter and olive oil combo to prevent burning. Avoid overcrowding the pan to keep shrimp crispy. Stir garlic quickly to avoid bitterness. Prepare salsa close to serving time to keep avocado fresh. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter. Use corn tortillas for gluten-free option.
