This Easy Lemon Butter Baked Salmon is fancy enough for a Friday night date night but simple enough for a Tuesday. It’s quick, easy, and unbelievably delicious with a magical lemon butter sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 teaspoons)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Fresh parsley or dill, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon slices, for serving
  • Flaky sea salt, for finishing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Position the rack in the middle.
  2. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the chicken broth, lemon juice, honey, and lemon zest. Whisk together and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  4. Place the seasoned salmon fillets in a 9×13-inch baking dish, skin-side down if skin is on. Pour the lemon butter sauce evenly over the fillets.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on thickness. For 1-inch thick fillets, 13 minutes is usually perfect. Salmon should be opaque and flake easily with a fork, or reach 125°F for medium.
  6. Let the salmon rest in the dish for 2-3 minutes. Spoon pan sauce over each fillet before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley or dill and lemon slices.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for best results. For a dairy-free version, use vegan butter or ghee. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat in a low oven at 300°F for 10 minutes.
