These sticky honey garlic chicken wings are baked to crispy perfection and coated in a glossy, sweet-and-savory glaze. Perfect for tailgates, game day parties, or any gathering, they come together in under an hour with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs (900g) chicken wings, separated into drumettes and flats
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2g) black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2g) garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup (113g) honey
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) sriracha (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings completely dry with paper towels. Place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together baking powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Sprinkle evenly over the wings and toss to coat thoroughly.
  3. Place a wire rack on a large baking sheet. Arrange the coated wings in a single layer on the rack, ensuring they are not touching. Refrigerate uncovered for at least 30 minutes (or skip if short on time).
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake wings for 45-50 minutes, flipping halfway through, until deep golden brown and crispy.
  5. While wings bake, make the glaze: In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sriracha (if using). Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove from heat and whisk in butter and sesame oil.
  6. Let baked wings cool for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to a large bowl. Pour warm glaze over wings and toss gently until evenly coated.
  7. Transfer to a serving platter, sprinkle with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra crispy skin, ensure wings are thoroughly dried and use a wire rack. The glaze can be made up to 3 days ahead and reheated. For a tailgate, bring baked wings and warm glaze separately and toss just before serving.
