Easy and elegant appetizer featuring crisp cucumber slices topped with creamy whipped cream cheese and delicate smoked salmon ribbons. Perfect for parties or a quick snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium English cucumbers, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 6 oz (170 g) smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry the cucumbers thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, slice them into 1/4-inch (about 6 mm) rounds. Set aside on a plate or tray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese with the finely chopped fresh dill and lemon zest. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Add olive oil if desired. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  3. Spread about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture onto each cucumber slice.
  4. Fold or roll thin slices of smoked salmon into small ribbons and place one on top of each cream cheese-coated cucumber slice. Add a caper or two on top if desired.
  5. Lightly season the assembled bites with a pinch of black pepper or lemon zest. Garnish with dill sprigs or a drizzle of olive oil if desired.
  6. Serve immediately or chill for up to 1 hour before serving. Cover with plastic wrap if preparing ahead.

Notes

Assemble just before serving to prevent cucumbers from becoming soggy. Keep smoked salmon and cream cheese chilled until ready to use. Use a sharp knife for even cucumber slices. Optional additions include capers for salty contrast and olive oil drizzle for richness.
