A simple, dramatic Halloween punch that creates a spooky fog effect with dry ice. Made with cranberry, orange, and ginger ale, it’s a crowd-pleaser that comes together in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Cranberry juice, 4 cups (950 ml)
  • Orange juice, 2 cups (475 ml)
  • Ginger ale, 2 cups (475 ml)
  • Pineapple juice, 1 cup (240 ml) (optional)
  • Simple syrup, ¼ cup (60 ml) (optional)
  • Dry ice, 1 to 2 pounds (450 to 900 grams)
  • Frozen eyeball ice cubes (optional)
  • Gummy worms or plastic spiders (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dry ice (5 minutes): Put on heavy-duty gloves. Place the block of dry ice on a clean towel or cutting board. Wrap the towel around it and use a hammer to gently tap it into smaller chunks about the size of a golf ball.
  2. Mix the punch base (3 minutes): In your punch bowl, combine the cranberry juice, orange juice, pineapple juice (if using), and ginger ale. Stir gently. Add simple syrup if desired.
  3. Add the spooky garnishes (2 minutes): Drop in frozen eyeball ice cubes, gummy worms, or plastic spiders.
  4. Add the dry ice (1 minute): Using tongs, carefully drop 2 to 3 chunks of dry ice into the punch. Do not let anyone drink the punch until the dry ice has completely sublimated (5 to 10 minutes).
  5. Serve and enjoy (immediately): Ladle the punch into cups, making sure not to scoop up any dry ice pieces.
  6. Refresh the fog (as needed): After about 10 minutes, add another chunk of dry ice to bring back the fog. Refresh every 15 to 20 minutes.

Notes

Always handle dry ice with gloves or tongs. Never let anyone drink the punch until the dry ice has completely sublimated. Do not seal the punch bowl or dispenser—carbon dioxide gas needs to escape. Pre-chill juices for better fog effect. For a more dramatic effect, dim the lights and place a small flashlight under the punch bowl.
